No Hot Water? Let's Work Out Whether It Needs
Repairing or Replacing.

A hot water problem doesn’t automatically mean you need a new system. I’ll check what’s actually gone wrong, explain whether it’s worth repairing, and if replacement makes more sense, help you choose a system that suits your home.

Hot water problems usually give you warning signs
No hot water at all
The system has stopped heating completely.
Water going cold quickly
You're getting some hot water, but nowhere near what you normally would.
Leaking hot water system
Water around the unit, valves or connections needs to be checked before it becomes a bigger problem.
Rusty or discoloured water
Discolouration can be a sign of corrosion inside an ageing storage tank.
Strange noises
Banging, popping or unusual sounds can indicate sediment, pressure or other problems inside the unit.
Getting hot water back
is only part of the job.
If your hot water system has stopped working, the first question isn’t necessarily “what should we replace it with?”
Sometimes the problem is a component that can be repaired. Other times, particularly with an older system that’s leaking, corroded or having repeated problems, putting more money into repairs doesn’t make much sense.
I’ll check the system first and explain what’s actually wrong, so you can decide what makes sense for your home rather than replacing something that could have been repaired.
What can go wrong with a hot water system?
- Faulty thermostat or heating element
- Leaking valves or fittings
- Corrosion inside an ageing tank
- Pilot light or gas supply problems
- Pressure relief valve issues
- A system that's no longer large enough for the household
- An older or inefficient hot water unit
- Repeated faults or loss of performance

Does your hot water system actually need replacing?
Not necessarily.
A failed element, thermostat, valve or fitting can often be repaired without replacing the whole system.
But if the tank itself is leaking or badly corroded, the system keeps failing, or it’s no longer meeting your household’s hot water needs, replacement may make more sense.
There isn’t one rule based purely on the age of the unit. I’ll look at the condition of the system, what’s actually failed and whether repairing it is sensible before recommending either option.
If repair makes sense, I’ll tell you. If replacement makes more sense, I’ll tell you that too.
Repair may make sense
Component failure, valves, fittings, thermostat or element problems.
Replacement may make sense
Tank corrosion, major leaks, repeated faults or poor performance.
The decision is based on the actual system
Not simply how old it is.
What happens when I check your hot water system?
1. Tell me what's been happening
No hot water at all? Running cold halfway through a shower? Water around the unit? Strange noises?
2. I'll inspect the system
I will check the unit, connections, valves and relevant components to work out what is causing the problem.
3. I'll explain what I've found
I will explain what is wrong in plain language and whether I think the system is worth repairing.
4. You decide what makes sense
If it is repairable, we can repair it. If replacement is better, I will explain why and help you choose.
5. Repair or replacement
I will complete the agreed repair or install the replacement system.
Wakeline works with most major hot water brands, including Rheem, Rinnai, Dux, Bosch, Thermann and Vulcan.

What hot water system is right for your home?
If replacement is necessary, the answer isn’t automatically whatever system happened to be there before.
I’ll look at things like your household size, how much hot water you actually use, the existing plumbing and gas or electrical setup, available space and what you’re trying to achieve from the new system.
Sometimes replacing like-for-like is the sensible option. Sometimes it isn’t.
The goal is to install something that actually suits the property, not simply sell you the biggest or most expensive system available.
A plumber first,
not a hot water salesman.
You’re dealing directly with me.
I’ll inspect the system before recommending what happens next. If a practical repair can keep it going, I’ll tell you. If I think you’d be throwing good money after bad, I’ll explain why.
No call centre, no sales targets and no pressure to replace a system before it’s been properly checked.

Hot Water System FAQs
Why do I suddenly have no hot water?
There are several possible causes, including a failed heating element or thermostat, gas supply or ignition problems, a faulty valve, electrical issues or failure of the hot water unit itself. I’ll check the system to identify what’s actually causing the problem.
Can my hot water system be repaired?
Often, yes. Components such as elements, thermostats, valves and fittings can sometimes be repaired or replaced without changing the entire hot water system. If the tank itself is leaking or badly corroded, replacement may be the more practical option.
How do I know if I need a new hot water system?
A leaking or corroded tank, repeated faults, rusty water, poor performance or a system that no longer provides enough hot water can all indicate that replacement is worth considering. The condition of the system and the type of fault matter more than age alone.
Should I repair or replace an old hot water system?
It depends on what’s failed, the overall condition of the system and whether the repair is likely to give you reasonable life from the unit. I’ll explain both options where they’re practical so you can decide what makes sense.
What size hot water system do I need?
That depends on your household size, hot water usage, available space and the type of system being installed. I’ll consider those factors rather than simply replacing the existing unit with the same size.
Do you install gas hot water systems?
Yes. Wakeline can help with gas storage and continuous flow hot water system replacement and installation where suitable for the property.
Do you repair electric hot water systems?
I can help diagnose electric hot water problems and repair plumbing-related components. Some electrical faults may require a licensed electrician, and if that’s the case, I’ll tell you.
Do you work with Rheem, Rinnai and other hot water brands?
Yes. Wakeline works with most major hot water brands, including Rheem, Rinnai, Dux, Bosch, Thermann and Vulcan.
Do you help with hot water systems in rental properties?
Yes. Wakeline works with homeowners, landlords, property managers and strata properties for hot water repairs and replacements.
What should I do if my hot water system is leaking?
If you notice water leaking from the system, it’s worth having it checked promptly. The cause could be a valve, fitting or connection, but a leak from the tank itself can indicate that the unit is failing.
What areas of Adelaide do you service?
